The Donald Cerrone vs. Eddie Alvarez fight features "Cowboy" climbing back from adversity and ending up achieving victory. The lightweight contender also revealed that he would want to compete once again before the year ends.

The Donald Cerrone vs. Eddie Alvarez fight was the co-main event feature at UFC 178 this past weekend in Las Vegas. It was also Alvarez's debut fight with the company, who previously held the Bellator FC lightweight title.

In a report by ESPN, it was revealed that "Cowboy's" slow start during the Donald Cerrone vs. Eddie Alvarez fight was what almost cost him the match.

"Not my best first round," Cerrone admitted. "I had to dig deep out there tonight. He hit me with a few shots and I figured, 'All right, that's enough of that.' I wish I could figure out why I start so slow because it would definitely make things easier."

Cerrone showed an unusual sense of respect towards Alvarez, who held the reputation of being an all-action fighter who would not quit. Even until his post-fight interviews, "Cowboy" had continued to revere his opponent.

"Eddie hits very hard and he stays in it the whole fight," he added. "He's definitely a threat here in the UFC."

The victory over a top contender such as Alvarez has put Donald Cerrone in line for a shot at the coveted UFC gold for the company's lightweight division. Currently, 155-pound champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis is slated to face Gilbert "El Niño" Melendez on December 6th.

However, "Cowboy" had declared during the UFC 178 post-fight press conference that he will opt to stay active instead of waiting for his title shot, which may happen in 2015 at the earliest.

"I, of course, want to stay very busy, so taking a fight on November or December would be great for me," Cerrone said. "Waiting? I don't know. I want to fight."
