Months before the trades and transfers where set, players such as Josh McRoberts, Danny Granger and Luol Deng where all on the opposite side of the bench from the Miami Heat.
But the rivalry did not last long as the three players will now be sitting at the same bench as their former rivals.
According to Heat coach Erik Spoelstra on the combination of new players "I was like, 'OK, we've got to mix that up."
McRoberts, Granger and Deng where all players from different teams who fought against the Heat during the playoffs. But Miami had to revamp their roster after LeBron James left the team. That is why many of the key players from other franchises where bought over to the other side of the fence.
According to Granger "When you have those intense battles, it definitely does something to you. You respect the other team. You want to kill them, as much as you can in the game, but off the court you have the utmost respect for them - especially a team like Miami. What they've done the last four years has really been incredible."
All of the three players have caused ire to Heat before. They had scored well for their team which made the games difficult of Miami. But now, things have changed.
According to Heat forward Udonis Haslem "I've made it clear to guys that when they come here and they become a part of this organization, they're part of this team. The stuff that we went through in the past, whether we were competing against each other or whether I gave them a hard foul or said something they might not like, that's in the past."
McRoberts came in to the scene as a free agent without any thought on who would be picking him. That is why it was a pleasant surprise to have the Heat choose him in their roster.
He said "I'd like to think all three of us aren't fun guys to play against. I hated playing against Luol. I hated playing against Danny. But we're all guys you want on your team, in terms of toughness and competitiveness and what we're willing to do to win basketball games."
