This fall's horror movie film "Annabelle," which is the prequel and spinoff of "The Conjuring," was released today.
Although the 2013 film did very well in the box office, making $318 million worldwide, "Annabelle" isn't getting as much love as "The Conjuring."
Time Out New York's Joshua Rothkopf gave "Annabelle" a disappointing two out of five stars.
"Centrally, the title character remains an impressive piece of prop work, and Leonetti's restraint in never animating it (a la 'Chucky') is the only thing worth appreciating here," wrote Rothkopf, according to E! News.
He added, "Meanwhile, the human beings - including Alfre Woodward as a handy local bookstore owner and occultist- feel as plastic as Barbie dolls."
"Annabelle" is about a family who is terrorized by a creepy doll. Ward Horton plays John while his wife MIa is played by Annabelle Wallis.
Although dolls scaring families is always appropriate for Halloween, "Annabelle" is still "ultimately so generic and formulaic that you'll probably forget it by the time you get home," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck.
Fans of "The Conjuring" have been comparing the "Annabelle" to the hit horror film.
"Just got back from seeing Annabelle. It's not that scary. Kind of boring actually. Conjuring > Annabelle," wrote Twitter user andy telasai.
Despite the reviews, horror movie fans are still preparing themselves to watch "Annabelle."
"I lowkey wanna see #Annabelle but I heard it's based on a true story so I might have a heart attack," wrote social media user Jeremain ' Grande.
