The postponement of Alexander Gustafsson's next fight against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson has left "The Mauler" hungry for an Octagon return. The Swedish mixed martial arts sensation has also concurred for a possible match against former light heavyweight champion "Sugar" Rashad Evans.
Alexander Gustafsson's next fight against "Rumble" Johnson was originally slated for UFC on FOX 13 in December, but due to the latter's domestic violence case that eventually led to his indefinite suspension, the match was called off.
In a report by MMA Fighting, "The Mauler" expressed his desire to get back into competition immediately and not wait for the winner of the title bout between champion Jon "Bones" Jones and Daniel "DC" Cormier.
"Well, the [Anthony] Johnson fight didn't go as planned," Gustafsson said. "I really wanted that fight. Of course, I want that belt, that's my goal, but I won't stay and wait for that. I want to stay active, so I hope to get a fight before this year has ended or early next year."
With regards to Johnson's situation, White revealed that his fighter's situation still remains indefinite, even if the court's decision on the case goes favorable.
"That fight was done -- it was going to be on FOX. Now it's not done," the UFC president said. "Now you sit back and wait to see how this thing plays out in court. It doesn't mean he's definitely going to fight here, even if it goes his way."
The recent turn of events also led former 205-pound champion Rashad Evans to get himself back in the mix, as he expressed his desire to face Gustafsson.
"When I left, I was at the top and Alexander Gustafsson has been getting better with every single fight," Evans stated in a report by MMA Junkie.. "Dana (White), set it up."
"The Mauler", who happens to be a former number one title contender, also expressed his agreement with Evans' proposal.
"Absolutely," Gustafsson said in reply. "I want to fight Rashad, too."
