Conor McGregor news features UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertita as he backed colleague Dana White's claims, saying that "The Notorious" did make more impact than former champions Brock Lesnar and Georges St-Pierre.
In a separate interview with MMA Junkie right after UFC 178, UFC president Dana White made a claim that Conor McGregor was bigger than former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, and former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Both fighters have their respective fan bases, which were a huge chunk among the mixed martial arts audience.
"He is a force that I have never seen ever," White said. "Bigger than Brock Lesnar when he was here. Bigger than any of the fighters we've ever had. Yes, (he's bigger than Georges St-Pierre). I've never seen anything like this."
Conor McGregor news reveals the statements made by UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertita regarding McGregor in his latest appearance on UFC Tonight, hosted by former UFC fighter Kenny Florian, current number one contender for the 205-pound title Daniel Cormier, and veteran journalist Karyn Bryant.
"You've got a guy like Conor, who has an incredible personality," Fertita said. "He's incredibly brash, and he backs it up."
Conor McGregor news also reveals that the company executive compared how the UFC's landscape was when both Lesnar and St-Pierre came in, as opposed to how things were when McGregor burst into the scene.
"When Brock came in, there was a lot of people talking about Brock, and he was a star in the WWE, but he didn't impact the show as much," Fertita explained. "He wasn't selling places out. He wasn't generating PPV buys that early. Obviously GSP is the same thing. He took the long road out and earned his shot."
Fertita then backed up Dana White's statements regarding Conor McGregor, and how he made a bigger impact in terms of star power.
"At the end of the day, when you look at the fact that we've never had an athlete come in to the UFC with this much excitement and this much impact, I think that's what Dana was referring to," he said.
