Anderson Silva's comeback fight will need to end via knockout, according to "The Spider's" teammate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. "Big Nog", however, is confident that the former UFC middleweight king will be able to deliver.
Anderson Silva's comeback fight will be against the former number one welterweight contender Nick Diaz. The "super fight" will take place as the main event bout for UFC 183, scheduled for January 31st of the coming year, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Prior to the months of preparation for Anderson Silva's comeback fight, "The Spider" had personal doubts, as he even announced that he was foregoing any further plans about going after a second title run in the UFC. The former champion even admitted that he was still haunted by the broken leg injury he sustained when he fought against Chris Weidman at UFC 186 in December 2013.
"I've worked with a psychologist so I can get rid of the ghosts of those horrible moments of that fight, when I had that accident," Silva said in an interview with Brazilian media outfit Globo.com. "I'm a little apprehensive in training. I know I can execute the movement, but I end up not doing it for fear."
"In a way you'll see me (fight again), but not for the belt, that thing of being champion again," he added. "I don't have patience for this. I think I'm closer to retirement every day."
"The Spider", however, seemed to have a change of heart, as he recently expressed his intent to go back for the title once again. But according to "Big Nog", a knockout victory is needed, especially when going against a fighter like Nick Diaz.
"Diaz is a good fighter, he once was world champion at Strikeforce and a top contender in his division," Nogueira told Brazilian website R7. "Nick is ready for a five round fight and Anderson has to knock him out."
Nogueira, however, is confident that the former pound-for-pound mixed martial arts king will be able to deliver.
"Anderson will do it, I'm sure," he simply said.
