Scarlett Johansson gets her first major small screen role in "Custom of the Country". The "Lucy" lead is the latest big name to star on TV.
According to Deadline, "The Avengers" star is also set to executive produce the period series limited to eight episodes only. "Custom of the Country" is based on the 1913 novel of the same name of Pulitzer Prize winner Edith Wharton. This is a lesser known book compared to Wharton's "The Age of Innocence" but the creator of "Downtown Abbey", Julian Fellowes, said that "Custom of the Country" has been his motivation to the hit TV drama.
Christopher Hampton, who also worked on "Dangerous Liaisons" and "Atonement", will write the script basing on his original screenplay. The British playwright-screenwriter had already penned feature-length script of the novel nearly a couple of decades ago. It was published in 2002 as a part of Hampton screenplays collection.
"Custom of the Country" is the story of an ambitious girl, Undine Spragg, to be played by Scarlett Johansson. She may be magnetically beautiful but she's unscrupulous. She will try to be a part of the high society circle of New York.
Only a month after she gave birth to her first baby, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, Scarlett Johansson is already back into shape. MailOnline reported that it had spotted gold band on the ring finger of her fiancé, Romain Dauriac. Are they married already?
"Her" star and Romain have been engaged since September 2013. A source told E! Online, "She is telling friends that she is not getting married until after the baby." Married or not, she is sure to have her hands full, balancing her family life and career.
Sony Pictures TV is behind "Custom of the Country", which is being eyed to run on a premium cable network. No date is definite yet as to when it is targeted to be aired.
