"Smallville" star Tom Welling, Alexandra Daddario (HBO hit series "True Detective"), and Maggie Grace ("Taken 2") complete the cast of "The Choice", Nicholas Sparks' most recent novel that made it into film .

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Welling will play the role of Ryan, the boyfriend of Gabby (played by Teresa Palmer - "Warm Bodies") who will make matters difficult for her and will compel her to choose between him and Travis (played by Benjamin Walker - "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight"). Grace will be the sister of Travis .

Here is the official summary of "The Choice according to the website of Nicholas Sparks: "'The Choice' tells the story of a long love affair that begins when Travis Parker and Gabby Holland first met as neighbors in a small coastal town and end up pursuing a relationship that neither could have foreseen. It spans a decade and traces the evolution of a love affair that is ultimately tested by life's most defining events."

"The Choice" is Nicholas Sparks' eighth novel that made it to movie. His first was "The Notebook". Two of Sparks' works are presently in production, "The Best of Me" and "The Longest Ride". But Variety reported that this is the initial independent feature from Nicholas Sparks Productions. The New York's best-selling author partnered with Theresa Park and Peter Safran to make and finance "The Choice".

Ross Katz directs "The Choice". Bryan Sipe ("Demolition") wrote the screenplay adaptation. Production is set to start this month in Wilmington, North Carolina. This may be one of the last films to be shot in the state before it reduces its longtime incentive program in 2015. Supervising the project are Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan of Lionsgate, which acquired the North American and U.K. distribution rights. Its executives have started discussing about this during the Cannes Film Festival.
