The Shining

Jack Nicholson delivered one of the most explosive performances of his career in this classic 1980's cult-film fave "The Shining." With a high 92% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, the horror film based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same title horrifically portrayed a writer's decent to madness, fuelled and perpetrated by relentless spirits haunting an old hotel he was tasked to overlook. Taking on the part time job, which he thought was an opportunity to earn while finishing his novel, was his worst decision he did not live to regret. It led to dire consequences for him, his wife and their young son.

The Loved Ones

Released in 2009, "The Loved Ones" got a 98% rating. Sean Byrne, in his directorial debut, has pulled all the stops to deliver this twisted, gory and psychologically disturbing teen-horror film to perfection. From the gist shared by Rotten Tomatoes, the most horrific night of Brent Mitchell's life began after Lola Stone decided that he will be her Prom king - whether he liked it or not. Enlisting her dad's help, she set out to make her dream date come true, much to Brent's horror as he suffered terribly for being the unwilling object of Lola's fancy.

The Innocents

Garnering a whopping 98% approval rating, the classic Jack Clayton and Chen-his Wong horror-suspense thriller boasts of fine cinematic craftsmanship. Released in 1961, it follows the frightening experience of the governess Miss Giddens who was hired by orphaned Flora and Miles's uncle to take care of them. Set in England during the Victorian period, the story's scares culminate when Miss Giddens suspected that the ex-governess and the valet were possessing the children (IMDB).
