Face reading is the art of reading a person's facial features to predict their future. According to this technique, the distance from the eyes to the eyebrows, the size of your lips and the shape of your ears can all predict your future. And in Korea's past the technique was used to determine whether or not someone might become king.
If a face reader had examined Seo In Guk's face in the past, might he have seen the role of a prince in his future?
That's the role the actor is currently working on. He will play Prince Gwanghee, a prince who survives many death threats in "The King's Face." The real Prince Gwanghee was the son of a concubine and his right to the throne was questioned. The prince used the art of face reading to protect himself and to eventually become the 15th king of the Joseon dynasty.
It's Seo In Guk's first time acting in a historical drama or saeguk. He was last seen playing a high school student/office executive in "The King of High School Manners" and a security guard/spy in "The Master's Sun." Prince Gwanghee is a role several other k-drama actors have played, including Ji Sung, Lee Byung Hun and Lee Sang Yoon. But Seo In Guk says he is up for the challenge of making the role his own.
"The character of Gwanghee has been portrayed very well by many senior actors so while I am glad to take on this role, I also feel some pressure," said Seo In Guk. "I'll work hard on acting and show you Seo In Guk's own Gwanghee."
Actor Lee Sung Jae, last seen in "The Suspicious Housekeeper," plays his father King Seongjo. The two actors previously worked together in "Rascal Sons," when they played brothers. In this drama father and son will both fall in love with the same woman, Kim Ga Hee. She is played by Jo Yoon Hee, who was last seen in "Nine: Nine Time Travels."
Despite the tricky love triangle, working with Lee Sung Jae has made Seo In Guk feel more comfortable trying a different kind of role
"I gain even more strength in knowing that I will be acting in my second project with Lee Sung Jae whom I have always been friendly with," said Seo In Guk.
In the drama the prince will consult a face reader played by Shin Sung Rok, last seen in "Trot Lovers."
"The King's Face" will follow "Blade Man."
