'Insidious 3' Trailer Sets Up Reboot To Franchise; Release Date Set On Summer 2015 Instead Of Halloween; Series Goes Back To Basics In Scare Tactics, To Recover From Sequel's Disappointment

The "Insidious 3" trailer is out, and it's a reboot of the series, now a trilogy.

Expectations for the "Insidious 3" trailer is high, and fortunately, it doesn't disappoint in terms of scares. The trailer reveals little detail about the plot other than it's a reboot of sorts. Based on reviews for the two previous films, though, the third installment looks like it'll satisfy fans by reverting to its tested approach of anticipated scares.

Reviews for "Insidious 2" were somewhat disappointing; fans and critics considered it an inferior follow-up to the original. The third movie is a prequel of sorts, revolving on events prior to the first two installments. "Insidious: Chapter 3" follows on the heels of ghostbusters Elise, Tucker, and Specs as they investigate a teenager targeted by a malicious entity from the Further.

With the "Insidious 3" trailer out on the film's official Facebook page, the installment is expected to repeat the success of relatively low-budgeted hits. Screenrant.com comments on the genre and the Box Office successes of recently released flicks.

"Along with 'The Purge,' 'Sinister,' and 'Paranormal Activity,' the 'Insidious' franchise is a combination of low-budget filmmaking with high box office yields that has been extremely lucrative for Blumhouse Productions over the last few years. Recent trends in the horror genre have seen original ideas taking the edge over remakes and reboots, and 'Insidious' was one of the movies that led that trend."

Unexpectedly (and unfortunately), the "Insidious 3" release date won't capitalize on Halloween, slated for summer 2015 launch instead. Cinemablend.com rants: "The sad thing about 'Insidious: Chapter 3' is that it's going so progressive with its approach that it's coming out next summer instead of in its typical Halloween season release date. Though, to be fair, the series is popular enough that it can easily perform in its early tentpole slot against films like 'Tomorowland' and the next Cameron Crowe film. Should it succeed, it looks like we just might have a new franchise to rival that of the 'Saw' series."

The "Insidious 3" release date is pegged on May 29, 2015.
