Anderson Silva news reveals "The Spider" remains to be Brazil's top fighter. Meanhwhile, the former 185-pound champion mended his ties with a Brazilian light heavyweight contender.
Silva's UFC reign as champion spanned for seven straight years, which consisted of ten straight title defenses, the most in the promotion company's entire history in its 20-year existence. After losing his belt to Chris Weidman in July 2013, and once again failing to win it back in December, "The Spider" was slightly forgotten by fans as he himself was placed on the sidelines due to an injury.
Anderson Silva news reveals that on Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro, the former top pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighter in the world has remained the king for his fellow Brazilians, as he was met by a loud, standing ovation from the crowd when he walked out to the arena.
Here is a clip of Silva walking out to the Maracanazinho Gymnasium, where he was welcomed by the loud cheers of the fans in attendance.
Anderson Silva news also reveals that "the Spider" has mended his relationship with Brazilian light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado. In a report by MMA Fighting "The Iron Hillbilly" criticized Silva and his Jiu-Jitsu coach Rodrigo Nogueira in the past, mainly for issues regarding training equipment use and fees.
After Maldonado's fight on Saturday, both men ended the quarrel, as Silva came up on the cage wall to celebrate as well.
"He came close to the fence to celebrate and I said 'come on, jump here,' and I asked for apologies for not saying directly to him what I wanted to say instead of talking to the media about it," Maldonado explained. "I had my bad days, and I talk too much. I told him I was happy to see him and his family, and he said we're good, so I kissed his bald head."
