Serena Williams news reports are one in saying that the tennis champ proved her doubters wrong when she defeated Simona Halep in the WTA finals after a shaky start.

The Guardian reported Serena Williams news claiming that there were too many who doubted the tennis champ after failing to reach the quarterfinals earlier this year.

But she proved that she's still the woman to beat with a dominance over Simona Halep with a final score of 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday.

"The triumph was all the remarkable given that Halep had cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory when the two women met in the pool stages of the tournament just four days ago," it said.

Serena Williams admitted later to the media that her defeat to Simona Halep days earlier was messing with her mind at the start.

"She was playing so well like she did the last time we played and I literally was on this side of the court and I just laughed. I was like: 'Serena you have nothing to lose, just relax.' Once I relaxed I just started playing better and making my shots," she recounted.

In other Serena Williams news from Yahoo EuroSport, the article noted that 2014 has not been kind to the multiple Grand Slam winner.

"Serena, for her part, has spent the entire second half of the year incessantly proclaiming her excitement for 2015," it said. "Even after she captured the US Open without a single set lost, it was clear she was completely over it all - ready for a clean state and a new season."

But even with what for her was an average year, she still managed to achieve things that should be difficult for any women's tennis player to follow.

"After all, she only won the US Open - a legendary Navratilova and Evert-equalling 18th slam. She only triumphed at the WTA Finals. She was only crowned the Miami, Cincinnati and Rome Masters champions. She only decimated the strong Brisbane and Stanford tournaments. She only became the first player to finish number one two years in a row since Steffi Graf in 1996," the article noted.
