Jon Jones' next fight opponent Daniel Cormier believes that his job as an analyst for FOX Sports is helping him for the upcoming title bout. "DC" is also thrilled about the fact that he can throw verbal jabs at "Bones" any time he wants to.
Jon Jones' next fight against Daniel Cormier is scheduled as the main event attraction for UFC 182 on January 3rd. But just last week, "DC" was given a permanent post as a co-host on FOX Sports' "UFC Tonight" show alongside former UFC veteran Kenny Florian.
And for "DC", this old-new endeavor will be helpful in his preparations for Jon Jones' next fight.
"What it does is force me to take a day off in the middle of the week, which I would not do. I would go hard from Monday through Saturday and by the end of the week I'm so beat up I couldn't do anything," Cormier told FOX Sports.
Cormier, who trains alongside heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, has always been known to undergo hard sparring sessions during training. But given his new gig, "DC" also believes that it gives him an opportunity to relieve himself from the beatings he has been taking in the gym.
"It forces me to actually take a day off, allow my body to not take the beating and recover," Cormier continued. ""It's going to work out for me better than actually if I wasn't doing the job."
The hype behind the "Bones" and "DC" title bout has been an all-time high mainly due to the media brawls and on-air tirades that were publicized prior to the fight's postponement in August.
Since then, both men have been quiet in terms of communicating with each other. "DC", however, sees his new job as an opportunity to take shots at Jones, in a more ethical way, to say the least.
"It probably would not be in his best interest to watch every week because I'm probably going to say something that's going to upset him really bad," Cormier said, speaking about Jones. "I'm probably going to say quite a few things that he won't like."
"I can reach Jon even whenever we're not around each other," he added.
