The Sunset Overdrive reviews are in, and thankfully the Xbox One exclusive lived up to the hype.
Critics offer rave Sunset Overdrive reviews, in contrast to the quite lukewarm reception the game had prior to its release. Sunset Overdrive is an Xbox One exclusive, and is expected to boost sales for the Microsoft console.
The game is shamelessly, purely mayhem from beginning to end, offering gamers a free-for-all melee playground. Developer Insomniac Games made sure players are aware Sunset Overdrive is a parody of all the games previously enjoyed and loved.
Sunset Overdrive reviews for the Xbox One did the console justice, especially with the title planned to bundle for the holidays. First crack at the game already reveals potshots at Grand Theft Auto, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Infamous, among other titles.
The CNET review was an all-out rave for the title, making up for doubts during the unveil and the test runs.
"At times Sunset Overdrive reveals hints of its maker's ancestry, but simultaneously stands out with a polished sense of humor, smartly executed atmosphere and razor-sharp presentation. This is a game made by people who love video games -- and that passion shines through every sound byte, line of dialogue and art direction decision."
The title shines in terms of gameplay, and with humor.
"Sunset Overdrive draws inspiration from a colorful set of source materials. It's a familiar aesthetic to anyone who's played Dead Rising, Jet Grind Radio, Infamous and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater or who has flipped through the pages of a Scott Pilgrim or Deadpool comic book.
You're likely to sniff out your favorite moments from all these works in Overdrive -- and you'll instantly realize it's a game that is well aware of a fourth wall. In fact, Sunset Overdrive wraps that wall in dynamite and then lets you throw a flaming bowling ball through it."
Positive Sunset Overdrive reviews are expected to bump Microsoft Xbox One's sales, with the exclusive released last October 28.
