New York city has a long and storied history. Not to mention, violent, as can be seen in Martin Scorsese's epic film, Gangs Of New York. Now another movie is set to explore one of the most violent seasons in the Big Apple's History. And today, we get a first glimpse of A Most Violent Year's trailer, the first full length one to be released to the public.
Debuting ahead of the world premiere of the movie at this year's American Film Festival on November 6, the J.C. Chandor movie is set to have everyone talking. The movie is set in New York city during the 1981 winter, which clocked in as the most violent year in the city's whole history. The story, as can be seen in A Most Violent Year's trailer follows the life of an immigrant and his family as they try to make their American dream come true. The immigrant, played by Oscar Isaac runs an oil heating business, and he is helped by his wife, who is played by Interstellar's Jessica Chastain. They struggle against all that wrong and evil in the city, its violence, and corruption.
Much to Chandor's delight Isaac and Chastain had known each other for almost exactly as long as their characters would have known each other. The two had known each other from their years at Juliard, and their chemistry is very evident in A Most Violent Year's trailer. "I think Jessica was a year or two ahead of Oscar, and they had not actually acted opposite each other but they had been in classes together," explains Chandor. "That is the way the world works sometimes when you are casting - suddenly all of the answers come right before your eyes."
The movie is set to hit theaters on December 31. Meanwhile, enjoy the A Most Violent Year's trailer right here!
