Anderson Silva news reveals that "The Spider" was hospitalized due to lower back pain. However, his doctors have confirmed that his upcoming bout against Nick Diaz will still be pushing through.
"The Spider" is scheduled to face "MMA's Bad Boy" as the headliner for UFC 183, which slated to take place on January 31st in Las Vegas. It the comeback bout for both men, with Silva being sidelined since December 2013, after suffering a broken leg injury in the hands of current champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168.
Diaz, on the other hand, has not seen action since March 2013 at UFC 158, after a self-imposed hiatus due to his loss against former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Anderson Silva news reveals that on Monday morning, the former long-time middleweight champion was rushed to the hospital after experiencing pains on his lower back during jiu-jitsu training.
In a report by MMA Fighting, Silva experienced pain as he was trying to stand up, but upon realizing that he could not do so, along with a numbing sensation on his legs, "The Spider" was immediately rushed to the Barra D'Or hospital in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Upon undergoing a series of tests including MRI scans, blood tests and CT scans, doctors who examined him concluded that it was merely a bout of lumbago, a common muscle and bone disorder that affects 40% of people at some point in their lives. Silva was eventually released on Tuesday morning.
Anderson Silva news also reveals that "The Spider's" hospitalization will not be affecting his upcoming fight with Nick Diaz. According to Dr. Marcio Tannure, Silva, who has signed a new 15-fight deal with the UFC, is cleared for his January bout with Diaz.
"He felt a severe pain because of the contracture," Dr. Tannure explained. "It really hurts a lot, but it won't change anything in terms of training. The issue he had explains the pain but won't get him sidelined or even cancel the bout."
