The reason for the postponement of Ronda Rousey's next fight has been revealed, and "Rowdy," who initially was bummed out about the move, says there is an upside to it after all
Ronda Rousey's next fight will be against Cat Zingano, wherein she will be defending both here undefeated win-loss slate and her women's bantamweight title. The bout was originally scheduled as the co-main event of UFC 182 on January 3rd, headlined by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Daniel Cormier.
However, Ronda Rousey's next fight was moved, after challenger Cat Zingano was reported to have been dealing with a back injury, making her unable to make the original date. The bout was then rescheduled for UFC 184 in February, wherein middleweight champ Chris Weidman will be headlining the card against challenger Vitor Belfort.
In a report by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, Zingano's team deemed it necessary to move the fight to a later date, given "Alpha Cat's" situation.
"Cat Zingano has been dealing with a back issue," Helwani said. "She wouldn't be ready to fight in January and needed more time to recover."
While disappointment was "Rowdy's" initial reaction, the veteran women's MMA fighter took the decision as it was, noting that it was beyond anyone's control.
"I just show up and fight when they tell me to show up and fight, and I show up and win, and that's it," Rousey said in her appearance during Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "Who it is and what it is is outside of my control, so I can't really invest too much of my happiness in it."
Rousey also noted the upside of her fight being moved to a later date, and subsequently, a different venue.
"It has always been a dream of mine to fight at Staples Center, and so that is the silver lining," "Rowdy" said. "I always want to do the Staples Center, I remember they days when I was cocktail waitressing and I was watching the Lakers play on TV and being like, man, I wonder if things would be different if, like, Luke Walton walked in here and asked me out and I would never have to cocktail waitress again."
"And now I'm going to be one of the headliners at the Staples Center, it's pretty ridiculous," she added. "It feels special, it really does."
