Manny Pacquiao news reveals veteran referee Joe Cortez claiming that "Pacman" is declining faster in terms of boxing skills than Floyd Mayweather. The boxing official also picked "Money May" to win the highly anticipated mega fight.
The 71-year old retired referee has been involved in boxing's biggest bouts. Some of the notable ones include the initial meeting between legends Oscar De La Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Evander Holyfield's first title bout in 1986, and George Foreman's milestone heavyweight title fight at 45 years old in 1994.
Manny Pacquiao news reveals that in a report by On The Ropes Boxing, Cortez claimed that "Pacman" is on a faster decline compared to paper-rival Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"Pacquiao getting knocked out by Marquez, and he looked okay when he fought Brandon Rios in Macau, but he's slipping a lot, too," said Cortez. "He's slipping a lot more than Mayweather is."
It is no secret that boxing is a young man's game, and age catches up to everyone, even the elite athletes. But for Cortez, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has done an excellent job in keeping himself at an unreachable state despite his age and lengthy fighting career.
"All fighters reach a certain age that you have to slip a little bit, and he (Mayweather) may be slipping a little bit, but not enough to be in the danger zone," Cortez asserted.
The Hall-of-fame referee also claimed that Mayweather's smarts is what is keeping him at the top of the game.
"Mayweather learned from his mistakes from the first time," Cortez said speaking about "Money's" recent fights against Marcos Maidana. "That's why he gave him a rematch, because he knew what he could do with him, and he proved to the world that he could."
As for the highly clamored match-up between Mayweather and Pacquiao, Cortez also picked his side.
"That fight is a fight that I see Mayweather winning by decision, because Mayweather still has those skills," he explained. "I gotta go with Mayweather on that one."
