Last Wednesday, Google revealed its latest update to Google Maps. The revelation includes Material Design.
According to Yahoo, the new design language which will be used in Android 5.0 Lollipop is gorgeous. The new update will be rolling out this week. There are more added features that will make Google Maps more useful than ever. The added features are:
- In-app reservations: allows user to make a reservation at a restaurant right through Google Maps to any American restaurant that he can find on OpenTable.
- Uber integration: this Google Maps will give estimated Uber pickup times and prices to get the desired destination. This is very useful during cold season or winter. For those who wait outside on a cold day for public transportation and don't feel like staying in the cold too long, this app will help them to check transportation available.
- Redesigned information sheets for individual places: This is one of the important areas. Google said that "by tapping on a place's info sheet at the bottom of your screen, you'll send an info layer gliding up to the top, showing you photos, reviews, and more."
Based on The Verge, the changes aren't dramatic and it seems that Maps still functions and is laid out largely the same way. The noticeable changes is the more stylish layout.
The tech blog also added that even though Google demonstrated the updated design on the iPhone and both Android phones and tablets, the company didn't specifically mention whether the iPad will be getting this Google Maps redesign update as well.
