"Bond 24" has had some setbacks before it was finally given the green light for filming.

Earlier reports claim that filming was delayed because director Sam Mendes needed to do some drastic changes on the latest 007 flick's script. Incorporating more humor and wit was on top of the list.

In a Radio Times interview, actor John Cleese (formerly Q in "The World is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day") shared his observations with the new James Bond flicks that star Brit hottie Daniel Craig.

"I did two James Bond movies, and then I believe that they decided that the tone they needed was that of the Bourne action movies, which are very gritty and humourless."

"Also the big money was coming from Asia, from the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, where the audiences go to watch the action sequences, and that's why in my opinion the action sequences go on for too long, and it's a fundamental flaw. The audiences in Asia are not going for the subtle British humour or the class jokes," he said.

The James Bond movies Cleese was part of proved to be blockbuster hits. But, these movies starring Pierce Brosnan as James Bond was seen as "silly" and "over the top" by many.

"Although financially successful, the films were seen as increasingly silly and over the top, prompting a paring-back of the gadgets and quips for the subsequent Daniel Craig era. The strategy worked: the most recent instalment, Skyfall, became the highest-grossing film ever at the UK box office and made $1.1bn worldwide. Q returned to the series in Skyfall after being absent for two films, but was played rather more soberly by Ben Whishaw," said a report on The Guardian.

Sam Mendes got Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to do some necessary fix-me-ups for the script.

A source claims: "Purvis and Wade have been asked to 'punch up' the script and sprinkle in more gags, emphasising the witty repartee between Daniel Craig's 007 and Naomie Harris's Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and Ralph Fiennes's M."

Meanwhile, "Bond 24" updates claim that the Bond villain role still has yet to be filled in. Rumors started to fly that Mark Strong has been casted for the role, but Strong vehemently disproved the rumors.

"The reason these rumours came about is because recently we [he and Daniel Craig] went on a walking tour together in the Atlas Mountains," he said.
