Earlier this month, Ed Sheeran got "engaged" to a terminally fan in Glasgow. Unfortunately, Katie Papworth passed away last week, leaving the British singer "devastated" at the news.
"So devastated to hear Katie has passed away. Prayers are with her family," he announced on Twitter on November 7.
Katie Papworth went to watch the British star's show earlier in the month, despite suffering from brain cancer. As a huge fan, she reportedly gave Sheeran a painting of a Lego house as a tribute to his first worldwide hit, 'Lego House.'
According to The Independent, the 10-year-old fan made the painting before her cancer took away her sight. Sheeran signed her work, "Dear Katie, lovely to finally meet my wife."
The 'Thinking Out Loud' crooner had been so impressed with her work, however, that he asked her if he could keep the painting for himself. He reportedly wanted to put it up his wall.
Papworth also gave him a ring with an infinity symbol.
Papworth's mother, Trish, told The Mirror, "When she presented the ring he smiled and said, 'I suppose I should say yes. OK.'"
Although Katie Papworth and Ed Sheeran weren't really engaged, the teenager's mother said that Sheeran still made her daughter very happy that night.
She added, "He made it really special for her and she's since said she needs to think about bridesmaids."
The 'Don't' singer didn't stop the nice deed that night. He also sent her a video, wishing for her recovery.
Katie Papworth had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006 but was able to get better, living in remission for five years before the cancer came back in 2011. Meeting Ed Sheeran had been one of the items in her "wish list" which she reportedly created earlier this year.
In reality, the 'Sing' hitmaker is dating Athina Andrelos who works for Jamie Oliver. Ed Sheeran is not engaged to his girlfriend yet.
