Former "Strikeforce" champ Gina Carano is still popular as one of Bellator's most identifiable stars. Carano was anticipated to go back to the cage this year but it did not push thru due to her Hollywood career. According to Combat Press, "Carano is more likely to go to Bellator than the UFC." Bleacher Report previously noted that Bellator would likely opt to build a 135-pound division around Carano's star power.
According to MMA Mania, the former Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has been busy boosting up the Viacom-owned company's MMA game after he has taken over Bellator few months back.
"If you look at our past, we have always believed in female fighting," he said in his previous interview with The MMA Hour. "We've had one conversation with Brent and Scott and that was it. It was just one quick conversation and there was nothing really made of it. I think that Gina really wants to fight at 135. As far as Cyborg, we haven't talked to her because she is under contract and fighting with Invicta. But if she ever becomes available, then we will have a conversation with her. We don't have a 135 division and I can't say what (Carano) is going to do because she's got film commitments and she is very busy and has a good acting career. It's going to be up to her and her schedule," he added.
Reportedly UFC President Dana White's negotiation with Carano's rep has fell out.
"The hardest human being we've ever dealt with and I didn't see it coming," White said about trying to sign Carano. "I don't know, we'll see how these things play out. Just incredibly difficult. We've dealt with (Brock) Lesnar, Tito (Ortiz), Chuck (Liddell) was f--king king of the world, Ronda Rousey, we've pretty much done deals with everyone on Earth and she is the hardest f--king athlete we have ever dealt with."
Since the President's remark is not so pleasant, there might be a big chance that the female fighter will go to Bellator in case she's decided to come back to fighting.
