Which tablet device is worth the purchase? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Nexus 7 to see which is the better buy.

For the design and display, the Nexus 7 has a IPS LCD LED-backlit display that measure 7 inches and can render a resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels. The tablet weighs 290 grams and has the following dimensions: 200 x 114 x 8.7 mm.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a larger 8 inches display that is a TFT model and renders a lesser resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels. It is heavier than its competitor, weighing 338 grams and has the following dimensions: 210.8 x 135.9 x 8 mm.

In terms of hardware and OS, the Nexus 7 is powered by a Krait processor (a quad core which is clocked at 1.5 GHz) that comes with a Snapdragon S4Pro chipset from Qualcomm. It comes with a 2GB RAM with two optional internal storage: 16GB and 32GB (there is no microSD, hence the memory is not expandable) and runs on the Android Jelly Bean.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 8 has a Cortex A9 processor (a quad core working at 1.6 GHz) which is paired up with an Exynos 4412 model chipset. It also has 2GB of RAM with two optional internal memory: 16GB and 32GB (by using a microSD card, you can expand this memory by up to 64GB) and it also runs on the Android Jelly Bean.

For battery usage and camera specs, both tablets have non-removable batteries: the Nexus 7 has a 3950 mAh Li-Ion battery unit, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 4600 mAh Li-Ion battery unit.

For the rear-facing camera, both tablets have the same features: a 5MP camera that has autofocus, touch focus, face detection and geo-tagging. The front-facing camera on the other hand, the Nexus 7 has a 1.2MP camera, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a 1.3MP one.

The Nexus 7 (16 GB) cost around $183.99, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (16 GB) cost $319.00.
