Super Smash Bros is now the fastest selling Wii U game. According to Forbes, it knocks off Mario Kart 8 to second place after selling almost 500,000 copies for 3 days just in the US only. Mario Kart 8 had 1.2M worldwide copies, sold over a similar period around the world, including Japanese and European launches.

Game Spot reported that Mario Kart 8 was the previous fastest-selling Wii U game ever for the US. Super Smash Bros for Wii U sales are likely to continue later this month and into December, when the game is released across Europe, Australia, and Japan.

Reportedly, Nintendo's holiday season is already "off to a great start" according to Nintendo of America marketing executive Scott Moffitt adding Nintendo has "a few more surprises" in store for fans. However he cautioned that "there's a lot of work left to do," at their end.

Tech Crunch reported that Nintendo North American president Reggie Fils-Aime said "the launch of Mario Kart 8 on the console essentially doubled the sales of the Wii U when measured year-over-year, and while many of those new device owners likely will be buyers of Super Smash Bros, too, there are bound to be some new hardware sales driven by the game."

According to a previous report from Tech Crunch, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the "fifth game in the wildly popular fighting game franchise that brings together all the company's biggest characters." The latest release will allow 8 players to battle at once. Players can also jump into regular 4-player battles having a lot of character options to choose from. Users can also play against friends, CPU adversaries or even with strangers online.

Tech Crunch noted that Nintendo included a lot more characters from its various franchise which includes Mario and friends, mainstays from The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon. Contenders from old NES fighting games, the Xenoblade series, Animal Crossing, and even Wii Fit are also included in the list which means more fighters from other companies' games.
