Which smartphone is better? We pit the Samsung Galaxy A5 against the Motorola Moto G 2014 version to see which is worth the purchase.
For design and display, both devices are fitted with 5 inches displays with 720x1280 pixels and 294ppi, but the companies are using different technologies.The Samsung Galaxy A5 has its own Super AMOLED display, which has some issues with the over-saturated colors, while the Motorola Moto G 2014 is using an IPS LCD screen with a better outdoors viewing experience. Plus, it’s protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The Moto G 2014 dimensions are 141.5×70.7x11 mm and it weighs 149 grams, while the Galaxy A5 weighs 123 grams and measures 139.3×69.7×6.7 mm.
In terms of hardware, and OS, the Samsung Galaxy A5 features a quad core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53, backed by a newer Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset and an Adreno 306 GPU, while the Motorola Moto G 2014 has a quad core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, based on a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and the graphics are from Adreno 305 GPU. The performance of A5’s processor is enhanced by the 2GB of RAM, while the new Moto G has 1GB of RAM.
The Samsung device has 16GB of internal storage and it can be increased up to 32GB, the single SIM version, while the Motorola device has 8 and 16GB of storage and the maximum capacity that can be obtained with a microSD card is 32GB. Both smartphones come loaded with Android v4.4.4 (KitKat), but the Moto G 2014 has priority to be upgraded to Android L.
For battery and camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy A5 has a bigger battery of 2300 mAh which curiously is non-removable on this model. Plus it has a feature called Ultra Power Saving Mode which will extend the lifetime with a few hours. The Motorola Moto G 2014 has a 2070 mAh battery, which is also non-removable.
The Samsung device has a better primary camera of 13MP, which features autofocus, LED flash, face detection, panorama, touch focus and geo tagging. The Motorola Moto G 2014 features an 8MP front camera with similar features and has another 2MP shooter on the front, which pales in the face of A5’s 5MP front camera.
The Samsung Galaxy A5 dual-SIM version cost $550 dollars, while the Motorola Moto G 2014 costs only $180.
