The actor and 2PM rapper Hwang Chansung can be seen in the film "Five Siblings in Deoksu Village." In the film he plays Soo Geun, one of the five brothers, who are known for their disagreements, but in real life he is often described as considerate and easy to work with.
It's one of two films the actor stars in this year, the other being "Red Carpet." He recently toured the U.S. on 2PM's "Go Crazy" tour, named after the band's latest single. This year he also appears in a Chinese drama, "If I Love," with Chinese actress Liu Fen. And he can be seen in "After School Club."
Here are a few more facts you may want to know about the singer and actor.
1. He may be described as an idol turned actor but he actually had his debut as an actor first. He played roles in the comedy "Unstoppable High Kick" and then appeared in the 2008 drama "Jungle Fish" before becoming a member of the popular band.
2. He was on "Superstar Survival." If you've ever seen 2 PM perform, you might be surprised to discover that Hwang Chansung had to work hard to convince people of his talent. Along with his future band member Lee Junho and Ok Taecyeon, he auditioned for and made the finals of "Superstar Survival" in 2006.
3. Working out is one of his hobbies but that doesn't mean progress comes easily. His trainer told "Men's Health" that it takes a lot of exercise to show any results on Chansung's body. And while that might discourage anyone else, he makes up for that in sheer effort. He often works out twice a day. He's a trained martial arts expert with high levels in Taekwondo and Kumdo, a modern Korean martial art descended from the Japanese martial art Kendo.
4. He felt nervous and insecure when he first joined 2PM.
"The members were all so talented," he said in the interview with "Men's Health." "At first I couldn't match the dance moves to the rhythm so I was always early or late. To keep from hurting the other members, the only thing I could do was to try harder than them."
Actor-singer Rain is his idol because of the enormous amount of practice he always puts in.
5. Seoul residents may want to look out for him when they shop early in the morning. When he missed having a normal life, walking through the streets without incident, he used to take early morning walks through malls.
"When I miss things like that I sometimes go shopping alone at the COEX mall early in the morning," he said in a 2009 interview with chosun.com. "I just wear a hat and take a subway train. Nobody recognizes me."
Look for him there or maybe at the gym.
