Which smartphone is the best purchase? The Blackberry Z3, the Motorola Moto G, or the HTC Desire 516.
In terms of display, The Motorola Moto G has the smallest screen between the three smartphones, measuring only 4.5inches (IPS LCD), but it supports the highest resolution of 720×1280 pixels (326ppi), leaving the two 5 inches displays behind and both the HTC Desire 516 and the Blackberry Z3 share the same screen resolution of 540×960 pixels with 220ppi.
The Moto G is also thicker than its rivals, measuring 11.6 mm, followed by the HTC device with a thickness of 9.7 mm and the Blackberry smartphone measuring 9.3 mm. The last two devices have the same length of 140 mm, but the HTC device is 4 grams lighter, weighing 160 grams.
For hardware and OS, both the Motorola Moto G and the HTC Desire 516 are powered by a quad core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, but the Motorola handset is using a newer Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset with Adreno 305 graphics, while the HTC device is settling for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with Adreno 302 GPU. The Blackberry Z3 has the same chipset and GPU as the Moto G, but it uses a weaker dual core of 1.2 GHz Krait 200 processor.
The RAM capacity is the same on the Moto G and the Desire 516 at 1GB, but the HTC device offers the smallest internal memory of 4GB, which thankfully it can be increased up to 32GB. The Moto G comes in variants of 8 and 16GB, but the phone lacks a microSD card slot. The Blackberry Z3 has 1.5GB of RAM and an internal memory of 8GB, also expandable up to 32GB.
The Motorola device runs on the Android v4.3, which was upgraded to v4.4.4 (KitKat), and soon will get the v5.0 (Lollipop) update. The HTC handset still operates on v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and the Blackberry device runs on the BlackBerry 10.2.1.
For the battery and cmaera specs, the Blackberry Z3 has the battery with the biggest capacity of 2500mAh, which allows users to talk 15 hours and a half on the phone. It’s followed by the Motorola Moto G with a 2070 mAh battery which claims to deliver 24 hours of talktime, and likewise the Blackberry smartphone, and it has a non-removable battery. The HTC Desire 516 is settling for a 1950 mAh battery with 9 hours of talktime.
All three devices have rear cameras of 5MP with not so many features. The front cameras are 1.3MP (Moto G), 2MP (Desire 516) and 1.1MP (Blackberry Z3). While the Motorola and HTC device can record videos at 720p@30fps, the Blackberry device can record at 1080p.
The Motorola Moto G 8GB costs $160 and the 16GB variant is $20 more expensive. The HTC Desire 516 costs around $168 and the Blackberry Z3 is more expensive than all three devices at $220.
