Super Smash Bros Wii U memory error may cause system to brick. IGN reported that the issue causes an error message with code 160-0103 to appear on-screen which states: "There is a problem with the system memory. For help, make a note of the error code and visit support.nintendo.com."
According to Gamnesia, the error can swipe the memory and brick the system. Reportedly, Nintendo suggests either formatting the system and/or sending it to them for repairs. However, it seems that reformatting the system is what causes it to brick.
Nintendo tech forums suggests that this error code may not realte exclusively to Super Smash Bros. However, IGN reported that majority of recent discussions are related to the said game.
Gamnesia noted that the common source of the error message is when the users update data from the game. It appears that the errors only show up with Super Smash Bros. Reportedly, all other games and functions work well until you play the said game or try to enter the Data Management page on the Wii U.
Since, the details of the problem is not yet revealed so as the fix for the said error, iDigital Times posted some tips to avoid this data loss and console problems.
Here are those:
1. Turn off your system's wifi or LAN internet connection.
2. If you've updated already, iDigital Times recommend not playing at all. It seems though that the main problem lies within the online portion of the game -- mainly For Glory mode.
If you have already received the error code, the website suggests:
1. Don't try to access Super Smash Bros 4 or Data Management.
2. Don't Format Your Wii U. Even Nintendo suggested it, reformatting the console seems to be the cause of the system to brick.
3. Don't try to delete system memory either.
At the moment several sites suggests to wait for Nintendo's official word on what exactly is causing the issue and how to address them.
