Which smartphone is the better buy? We pit the Motorola Moto G 2014 against the Nokia Lumia 535 to see which worth the purchase.

In terms of design and display, both smartphones have their backs made of plastic, but the Nokia Lumia 535 features a glossy shell and a rectangular body with curved edges and not so rounded corners, while the Motorola Moto 2014 has a matte plastic back with two horizontal bars on the front panel, above and below the screen, and the corners are more rounded. The Lumia 535 is thinner, shorter and lighter, measuring 140.2×72.4×8.8 mm, compared to 141.5×70.7×11 mm and weighs 146grams, with 3grams less than the Moto G 2014. The Lumia 535 is available in six variants of colors, while the Moto G 2014 comes only in white and black.

Both devices have screens of the same size, which is 5 inches, and they’re using the same technology, IPS LCD, but the Lumia 535 supports a lower resolution of 540x960pixels with 220ppi, while the Moto G 2014 has a HD screen with 720x1280pixels and 294ppi.

For hardware and OS, both devices are powered by a Cortex A7 processor with four cores, clocked at 1.2GHz, but Nokia Lumia 535 uses an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset and the previous Adreno 302 GPU version, while the Motorola Moto G comes with a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and Adreno 305 graphics. Things looks similar when we look at their RAM capacity, both hosting 1GB, and they have 8GB of in-built storage, with the possibility to expand the storage up to 128GB on the Lumia 535 and 32GB on the Moto G 2014.

The Nokia device runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 and has the Lumia Denim UI on top of it, while the Motorola device came with an Android v4.4.4 (KitKat), and soon it will receive the most wanted v5.0 (Lollipop) version.

For battery and camera specs, the Nokia Lumia 535 has a replaceable battery of 1905mAh, which promises to support 13 hours of talk time on 3G. The Motorola Moto G 2014 has a built-in battery of 2070 mAh which supports up to 12 hours of talktime.

Both of Lumia 535’s cameras carry the same resolution of 5MP, and the one on the back side has autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging, 1/4” sensor size and 480p@30fps video capture. The Moto G 2014 has an 8MP camera on the back with similar features, and which brings in addition HDR, touch foucs and face detection, and records videos at a higher resolution, 720p@30fps, in HDR. The front camera however is weaker at 2MP.

The Nokia Lumia 535 cost $148, while the Motorola Moto G 20 costs $150.
