Which HTC smartphone is the better buy? We pit the Desire Eye against the One M8 to see which is worth the purchase.
For the design and display, the HTC One M8 has a sleek design, featuring an aluminum construction with two horizontal thin bands on the back, which extend and meet the display. The edges and the corners are rounded, and the front panel features two rows of speakers. It weighs 160 grams, and its dimensions are 146.4×70.6×9.4 mm.
The HTC Desire Eye is thinner and lighter, but it’s taller, measuring 151.7×73.8×8.5 mm and weighs 154 grams. Instead of aluminum, the smartphone has a plastic unibody two-tone design, coming in two variants of colors: white back with red frame and darker blue with light blue frame. The phone has the same body shape, but the rear camera was placed in the upper left and the front panel lacks the speakers from the One M8.
Both devices support a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, but the Desire Eye has a bigger display of 5.2 inches with 424 ppi pixel density, while the One M8 is at 5 inches with 441ppi.
For the hardware and OS, both models are equipped with a quad core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor, backed by a Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 chipset, and they’re using Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Desire Eye comes in one variant of internal storage of 16GB, and the One M8 has another 32GB variant, but both devices will allow users to add a microSD card in roder to increase the memory up to 128GB.
The One M8 runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) version, but it will receive the 5.0 (Lollipop) sooner than the Desire Eye, which runs on the v4.4.4 (KitKat).
For battery and camera, the HTC One M8 came with a 2600 mAh battery, it seems that HTC downgraded it to 2400mAh, but on paper, both devices have the same duration of talking time at 20hours on 3G.
The One M8 has the same 4Mp Ultrapixel rear camera that was introduced on the M7, but on this model is Dual and has dual-LED flash, 1/3” sensor size, 2µm pixel size, HDR etc. The front camera is 5MP and it can record videos at 1080p@30fps in HDR. The Desire Eye comes with two cameras of the same resolution of 13MP, with dual-LED flash on both panels.
The HTC One M8 16GB cost $530, while the HTC Desire Eye is $70 more expensive.
