Which smartphone is the ideal purchase for consumers? We compare the iPhone 5C and the Nokia Lumia 520 to see which is better
For the design and display, both smartphones have their rear panels made of plastic and come in five variants of colors (each model), but the iPhone 5C has a glossy back, while Nokia Lumia 520 is opted for a matte effect. Both devices feature curved edges, but the iPhone 5C is taller and has rounded corners, while the Nokia Lumia 520 has sharper corners and instead of placing the rear camera in the upper left, Nokia chose to put it in the center.
The iPhone 5C is heavier than the Nokia Lumia 520, weighting 132 grams compared to 124 grams, and measures 124.4×59.2×9 mm, being thinner than its opponent, which measures 119.9x64x9.9 mm.
They also have the same sizes of display which is 4inches, but Apple device managed to obtain a resolution of 640×1136 pixels on the LED-backlit IPS LCD display, resulting a much higher pixel density of 326ppi. The Nokia device has a IPS LCD screen that was placed on the face and can’t support more than 480×800 pixels and 233ppi. However, it’s protected with a scratch-resistant glass.
In terms of hardware and OS, the iPhone 5C runs pretty fast with the Apple A6 chipset that is the host of a dual core 1.3 GHz Swift processor, a PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GOU and 1GB of RAM, and according to many testers, the device performs admirably compared to other Android devices. Unfortunately, the drawback of the model is the unexpandable internal memory, which comes in variants of 8, 16 and 32GB. The Apple device runs on the iOS 7 and the users are able to upgrade to iOS 8.1.1.
The Nokia Lumia 520 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8 OS, but users can try out the new 8.1 version. It features a dual-core 1GHz processor backed by an old Qualcomm MSM8227 chipset and has Adreno 305 graphics and only 512MB of RAM. Its internal storage is at 8GB, but it has an expandable microSD slot so you can get up to 64GB of memory.
For battery and camera specs, the iPhone 5C sports a slightly bigger battery of 1510 mAh which is non-removable and with a duration of talking time of 10 hours, with 20 minutes more than Nokia Lumia 520’s replaceable 1430 mAh battery.
The iPhone 5C’s rear camera is at 8MP that features autofocus, LED flash, 1/3.2” sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, HDR and video recording capabilities at 1080p@30fps. The Nokia Lumia 520 has only a 5MP camera on the back with 720p@30fps video capture and lacks LED flash.
The Nokia Lumia 520 cost only $78 on Amazon.com, while the 8GB variant of the iPhone 5C is five times more expensive than the other.
