Lee Byung Hun's movie 'Masquerade' hopes to surpass the 9 million mark today.
As of the morning on the 13th, according to the Korean Film Council's Movie Theater Tickets Integrated Network, 'Masquerade' is first at the box office with 150,684 tickets sold, viewed at 603 theaters.
The current total of ticket sales is 8,812,030, but is estimated to have about 200,000 tickets sold today. This is the result after only 31 days as the movie released last month on the 13th.
For the first three weeks, 'Masquerade' sold a million tickets over each weekend. This helped the movie get closer to reaching the 10 million mark.
'Masquerade', which released last month, passed the 2 million mark in 8 days and gaining momentum from its success, the movie hit 5 million in 18 days and 8 million in 26 days.
'Masquerade' is now in the top ten for biggest box office hits. It surpassed the movie 'Friend' with 8.18 million on the 8th and then went on to pass the 8th place movie 'D-War' with 8.42 million on the 10th.
'Masquerade' maintained an average of selling 100,000 tickets during the weekday to continue towards the 10 million mark. There is high anticipation for the movie to be the second one to pass 10 million after 'Thieves' this year.
Currently, the overall box office standings for the 1st to 7th movies is as follows: 'Avatar' (13.35 million), 'Thieves' (13.02 million), 'The Host' (13.01 million), 'The King And The Clown' (12.3 million), 'Taegukgi' (11.74 million), 'Haeundae' (11.39 million), and 'Silmido' (11.08). It will be interesting to see how high 'Masquerade' will get.
