Which device is worth the purchase? We compare Apple's iPhone 6 and the Blackberry Passport to see which is better.
For the design and display, the Blackberry Passport comes with a plastic body that measures 128×90.3×9.3 mm and weighs 194 grams. It features a steel frame and a horizontal strip that goes through the middle of the rear camera. Blackberry made this phone square because they wanted to integrate a physical QWERTY keyboard with three rows of keys, that makes it look like a business phone. The iPhone 6 on the other hand, is a lot thinner and lighter, measuring 138.1x67x6.9 mm and weighing 65 grams less. Its body is mostly made of metal (anodized aluminum) and the screen is protected with a layer of shatter proof glass.
The BlackBerry Passport has a square IPS LCD display with a diagonal of 4.5 inches, supporting an unexpected resolution of 1440×1440 pixels with 453ppi. The iPhone 6 has a LED-backlit IPS LCD display sized at 4.7 inches, which renders a resolution of 750×1334 pixels with 326ppi.
In terms of hardware and OS, the iPhone 6 has better internal specs; the new Apple A8 chipset, with the dual-core 1.4GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) processor and the PowerVR GX6450. The device provides 1GB of Ram and three variants of internal storage, which is fixed: 16, 64 and 128GB respectively. The operating system was developed by Apple itself, and the iPhone 6 was released with iOS8, but meanwhile, the 8.1.2 was released in order to fix many bugs.
The Blackberry Passport is powered by a fast Qualcomm MSM8974AA Snapdragon 801 quad core Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.26GHz, which pairs with an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM, and offers 32GB of storage, which can go up to 128GB. The OS is the BlackBerry 10.3.
For battery and camera specs, the Blackberry Passport has an enormous battery of 3450 mAh, which claims to support 23 hours of talking time on 3G, with 9 hours more than iPhone 6’s Li-Po 1810 mAh battery.
The rear camera on the Blackberry handset has a resolution of 13MP, being the first Blackberry phone with an improved shooter. It has optical image stabilization, LED flash, autofocus, HDR etc., and the secondary camera is 2MP, being capable to record videos at 720p. The iPhone 6 has the usual resolution of 8MP, equipped with phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash and offers better color accuracy.
The Blackberry Passport cost $585, while the iPhone 6 cost $649 (16GB).
