Which smartphone is the better buy? We pit the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime against the Nokia Lumia 730 to which one is worth the purchase.
In terms of design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime comes only in white color and its shell is made from glossy plastic and it’s surrounded by a plastic frame with metal finish. The front panel features a home button and two capacitive buttons and Corning Gorilla Glass is missing. Its dimensions are 144.8×72.1×8.6 mm, weighs 156 grams, and has 5 inches TFT display, but it supports an average resolution of 540x960pixels that gives 220ppi pixel density.
The Nokia Lumia 720 has also a glossy back, but with flat sides at the top and at the bottom, while the right and left sides are curved. The smartphone is 26 grams lighter, measures 134.7×68.5×8.7 mm and comes with an OLED display of 4.7 inches which supports a more convenient resolution of 720×1280 pixels and offers 316ppi. It seems a more durable device, considering that the front panel has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime comes with a newer variant of Qualcomm chipset, the MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 series, which support a Cortex A53 processor with four cores, clocked at 1.2GHz, and uses Adreno 306 graphics. When it comes to RAM and storage, the it supports 1GB and 8GB, and the internal memory can be increased up to 64GB with a microSD card. The device comes pre-installed with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat).
The Nokia Lumia 730 features a slightly inferior Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor and Adreno 305 graphics, The chip supports 1GB of RAM and has the same storage capacity, but which can be increased up to 128GB. It runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 OS.
For the battery and camera specs, Both devices have replaceable batteries, which have a similar lifespan of 17 hours on 3G, although they have different capacities. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime has a 2600mAh battery, with 400mAh bigger than the Nokia Lumia 730’s battery unit.
Samsung handset's rear camera has a higher resolution of 8MP compared to 6.7MP, but in reality, the Nokia device offers more features, such as a back-illuminated sensor, CMOS image sensor, ISO control, autofocus, HDR, digital zoom, white balance, night mode, effects etc. Meanwhile the Grand Prime offers only a CMOS image sensor, face detection, autofocus and geo tagging, but the video capture is the same at 1080p@30fps. Also, the front cameras are the same at 5MP, so we can’t decide which one is better.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime cost $240, while the Bokia Lumia 730 cost 9 dollars less than its rival.
