Michael Jordan had a graceful reaction on Kobe Bryant passing him as the third time highest scorer in the NBA. Meanwhile, players and celebrities offered their congratulations for the Black Mamba for the feat.
"I congratulate Kobe on reaching this milestone," Michael Jordan's statement read. "He's obviously a great player, with a strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball. I've enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next."
Michael Jordan's reaction to Kobe Bryant passing him was initially surprising considering his legendary competitive nature. But the co-owner of the Charlotte Hornets has always acknowledged the scoring prowess of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar.
In one of his earlier interviews to promote the NBA 2K14 game, Michael Jordan had said that he wouldn't lost to today's players, including Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant except, maybe Kobe Bryant "because he stole all my moves."
Another NBA great, Magic Johnson, also tweeted: "Congrats to @kobebryant on passing his idol Michael Jordan for 3rd on the NBA All-Time scoring list!"
He added: "Laker fans we've been so blessed to watch Kobe Bryant, one of the top 5 or 6 best players ever, play in a Lakers uniform!"
And finally: "Just like we've never seen another player like Michael Jordan, we will never see another player like Kobe Bryant!"
Snoop Doog also tweeted simply: "Congrats Kobe."
Comedian Mike Epps wrote on Twitter: "S|O to my boy KOBE for securing the 3rd spot on the all time scoring list! SALUTE !!!"
While producer LA Reid said: "@kobebryant #BlackMamba !!!!!!! the greatest period!"
After being told about Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan's reactions to becoming the third all-time highest scorer, Kobe Bryant said: "That's the most important thing for me is playing for the respect of the greats."
