Which smartphone is the better purchase? We pit the Motorola Moto G 2014 version versus the Nokia Lumia 730 to see which one is better.
In terms of design and display, the Nokia Lumia 730 comes with a glossy plastic back slightly curved on the sides, while the top and the bottom are flat. The Motorola Moto G 2014 looks almost the same as the original handset, only that it features two horizontal bars on the front panel, above and below the screen. However, both smartphones have Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top of their screens as a measure of protection against scratches. The Lumia 730 is shorter, narrower and slimmer than the Moto G 2014, measuring 134.7×68.5×8.7 mm and has a weight of 130 grams, with 19 grams less than its rivals, and its dimensions are 141.5×70.7×11 mm.
The Nokia device has a smaller display of 4.7 inches, which is OLED with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and 316ppi, while the Moto G 2014 has a 5 inches IPS LCD screen that supports the same resolution, but has a pixel density of 294ppi.
For the hardware, the Nokia Lumia 730 has a 1.2GHz quad core Cortex A7 processor backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, and pairs with an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Its internal memory is quite low at 8GB, but with a microSD card users are able to increase it up to a capacity of 128GB.
The Motorola Moto G 2014 came with identical internal specs, but the difference is that the 8GB memory can be expanded only up to 32GB.
For the battery and camera specs, the Nokia Lumia 730 comes with a built-in memory of 2200 mAh (BV-T5A) which provides 17 hours of talk time on 3G and 22 hours on 2G. The Motorola Moto G 2014's battery is non-removable and has a capacity of 2070 mAh.
The rear camera on the Nokia device has a resolution of 6.7MP and it comes with ZEISS optics, autofocus and LED flash, featuring a 1/3.4” sensor size and a few options that will help users take modest photos. It also has a 5MP front camera which can record videos at 1080p.
Motorola Moto G 2014 sports an 8MP camera on the back and a 2MP camera on the front and there is this option called Best Shot which can improve the photo quality.
The Nokia Lumia 730 costs $245, while the Motorola Moto G 2014 is only $180.
