Which tablet device is worth the purchase? We compare the iPad Air 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to see which is better.
For the design and display, the iPad Air 2 has a display of 9.7 inches made using LED-backlit IPS LCD technology, and has a resolution of 1536x2048pixels and a pixel density of 264ppi. The Samsung GalaxyTab S 10.5 has a Super AMOLED display of 10.5 inches, with an improved resolution of 2560x1600pixels that comes along with a pixel density of 288ppi.
Both tablets feature a fingerprint sensor hidden inside the home button. The iPad Air 2 is even slimmer at 6.1 mm, compared to 6.6 mm, the thickness of its rival. The iPad Air 2 is 240 mm in length and has a width of 169.5 mm, the WiFi version weighs 437 grams and the 3G/LTE version being 7 grams heavier. The Samsung tablet measures 47.3×177.3 mm and weighs 465 grams.
In terms of hardware and OS, the iPad Air 2 has a 64-bit 1.5GHz Apple A8X triple-core processor and has a PowerVR GXA6850 GPU with 2GB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is powered by the Exynos 5420 octa-core processor with two quad core processors one clocked at 1.9GHz and the other clocked at 1.3GHz. It uses Mali-T628 MP6 graphics and 3GB of RAM.
The iPad Air 2 comes with unexpandable internal memory, and it offers three variants of storage: 16, 64 or 128GB. It comes loaded with iOS 8.1, but Apple released a new update, iOS 8.1.1.
The Samsung tablet has 16 or 32GB of storage and users can add a microSD card to obtain a capacity of 128GB. It runs on the Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), until it will be upgraded to Lollipop.
For the battery and camera specs, the batteries are non-removable and have different capacities: 7340 mAh on the iPad Air 2 and 7900 mAh on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
Both devices have 8MP back cameras with common features such as autofocus, HDR, panorama, geo tagging, but the Apple device lacks LED flash and its front camera is 1.2MP, compared to the 2.1MP secondary shooter from the Samsung devcie.
The iPad Air 2 cost $499, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 16GB variant has the same price as the cheapest iPad Air 2.
