Which smartphone is the better buy? We compare the iPhone 5C or the HTC Desire 816 to see which one is worth the purchase.
In terms of design and display, the HTC Desire 816 has a solid design, a non-removable rear panel made of glossy polycarbonate, with matte finish sides, and curvy edges and there are two stereo speakers at the top and at the bottom of the display. It weighs 165 grams, has a thickness of 7.9 mm, a width of 78.7 mm and it’s 156.6 mm tall. It has a 5.5inches display that uses Super LCD2 technology with a resolution of 720x1280pixels with 267ppi.
The iPhone 5C is the only plastic smartphone created by Apple and the device has a pretty design, being curved and shiny. It’s a little bit thicker than the HTC device, measuring 9 mm, but it’s narrower at 59.2 mm, while it’s length is 124.4 mm and it weighs 132 grams. Its display is LED-backlit IPS LCD of 4inches, with a decent resolution of 640x1136pixels and 326ppi.
For the hardware and OS, the HTC Desire 816 has the Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset and a quad core 1.6GHz Cortex-A7 processor, which teams up with an Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5GB of RAM. The iPhone 5C has an Apple A6 chipset which supports a dual core 1.3GHz Swift CPU along with a PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Both smarphones have an internal memory of 8GB, but the Desire 816 allows expansion up to 128GB, while the iPhone 5C has fixed storage, but, users can choose a bigger capacity of 16GB or 32GB.
The HTC handset runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), while the Apple device just received the iOS 8.0.2 version after running previously on iOS 7.
For the battery and camera specs, both smartphones come with built in batteries, but their capacities are 2600 mAh and 1510 mAh respectively. On the HTC Desire 816 users can talk 21 hours on 3G, while the iPhone 5C supports only 10 hours of talking time on 3G.
The HTC Desire 816 has a camera with a higher number of pixels, 16MP and features that include autofocus, LED flash, HDR, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo tagging and face detection, and has a 5MP camera on the back, which is capable of shooting videos at 1080p.
The iPhone 5C has a 8MP camera with similar features, but which has a 1/3.2” sensor size and a 1.4 µm pixel size. However, the front camera is weaker at 1.2MP.
The HTC Desire 816 cost $315, while the iPhone 5C 16GB cost $455.
