Which Samsung device is the better buy? The Galaxy Grand Duos or the Galaxy Grand 2.
For the design and display, the Samsung Grand Duos has afaux leather which features fake stitching on the edges that makes it look a lot better. The Galaxy Grand 2 can be easily mistaken with the Note 3 because of its rectangular shape, but the Grand 2 has more rounded corners. The Grand Duos has only a home button below the screen, while the Grand 2 features two more capacitive buttons. The Grand Duos has a 5 inches TFT screen with a resolution of 480×800 pixels at 187ppi. The Grand 2 has the same TFT technology, but came with a bigger display of 5.25 inches, which supports 720×1280 pixels and 280ppi. The Grand Duos is bigger than the Grand 2 at 8.9 mm, compared to 9.6 mm, but the Grand 2 weighs only 1 grams more than the Grand Duos at 162 grams.
For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Ground Duos has a Cortex A9 processor with two cores, clocked at 1.2GHz and uses Broadcom VideoCore IV graphics, but it is equipped with 1Gb of RAM, which makes the processor run pretty smoothly. The Galaxy Grand 2 has a Cortex A7 with four cores, but which has the same clock speed. The chipset is Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 and the graphics are from Adreno 330, but the RAM capacity was increased to 1.5GB. Both devices are housing 8GB of internal memory and users are allowed to add a microSD card and obtain a capacity of 64GB.
The Grand Duos came with the Android version, 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), but it was upgraded to v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), while the Grand 2 came with v4.3 (Jelly Bean) and now it supports v4.4.2 (KitKat).
For the battery and camera specs, the Samsung Grand Duos has a battery capacity of 2100mAh, and it can hold up to 10 hours of talking time, with 7 hours less than the Galaxy Grand 2’s 2600 mAh battery. Both batteries can be replaced with new ones, so users won’t have to buy another smartphone.
The Galaxy Grand 2 has a 8MP back camera with LED flash, autofocus, geo tagging, face and smile detection. The video capture was kept at 1080p@30fps and the minor change is related to the front camera, which is 1.9MP on the Galaxy Grand 2, while the predecessor has a 2MP front snapper.
The Samsung Grand Duos cost $242 dollars on Amazon, while the Galaxy Grand 2 cost $276.
