Which smartphone is the better buy? We compare the Sony Xperia C3 and the HTC Desire 820 to see which is worth the purchase.
For design and display, Both smartphones have plastic backs with rounded edges, but the Sony Xperia C3 has sharper corners, while the HTC Desire 820 comes with a two tone design: the frame, the circle around the camera and the logo have the same color, while the chassis has a different color. The HTC device is a bit taller than its rivale, measuring 157.7 mm, has a width of 78.7 mm, a thickness of 7.7 mm and it weighs 155 grams, while the Sony device has a length of 156.2 mm, the same width, it’s 0.1 mm slimmer, and weighs around 150 grams. Both devices have the same screen size of 5.5 inches LCD, providing the same resolution of 720×1280 pixels with 267ppi. However, Sony is using a triluminous display and Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology.
In terms of hardware and OS, the HTC Desire 820 has a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 octa core processor that handles pressure with a pair of quad core processors consisting of a 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and 1GHz Cortex-A53 that has a new Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Sony Xperia C3 has Cortex A7 processor with two cores, while other devices from its generation come with dual core CPSs. The clock speed is at 1.2GHz, it has a Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chipset and the device manages to run most of the new games thanks to its Adreno 305 GPU, backed by 1GB of RAM.
The Desire 820 was spoiled with an internal memory of 16GB, expandable up to 128GB, while the Xperia C3 offers 8GB of storage and the possibility to increase it up to 32GB. Both devices run on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat), for now.
For the battery and camera specs, the HTC Desire 820 has a non-removable battery and sports capacity of 2600mAh, with a duration of talktime of 22 hours and 24 minutes. The Sony Xperia C3 has a user replaceable battery of 2500mAh and supports 25 hours of talktime.
The Sony device has a back camera with a lower resolution of 8MP, but it has the same features as HTC handset's 13MP main shooter. The HTC device can record videos at 1080p@30fps and 720p@60fps and offers an amazing front camera of 8MP, while the Sony device records at 1080p with its back camera and at 720p with the 5MP front camera which benefits from LED flash.
The HTC Desire 820 costs less than $380, while the Sony Xperia C3 costs $310.
