Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We pit the Samsung Galaxy S5 against the Huawei Honor 6 to see which one is better.
For the design and display, the Samsung Galaxy S5 features a dimpled plastic rear cover, it us water and dust resistance, being IP67 certified, and has a fingerprint sensor from the home button, which can be used to lock and unlock the device without entering the screen lock password. It weighs 145 grams and its dimensions are 142×72.5×8.1 mm.
The Huawei Honor 6 is slimmer than the Samsung device at 7.5mm and weighs 10 grams less, while its other dimensions are 139.6×69.7mm. It has a flat glossy finish on its back, and the edges are made of faux-metal, and the rear panel is the diamond-style textured effect.
The Samsung device has a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display, while the Huawei device has a 5 inch IPS LCD, and they support the same full HD resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, but the Huawei's screen renders a lower pixel density of 432ppi, compared to the Samsung's 445ppi. The Super AMOLED display has a better contrast and doesn’t drain the battery as fast as the IPS LCD, but the disadvantage is that it produces oversaturated colors.
For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a powerful Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 Krait 400 processor with four cores, clocked at 2.5GHz, coupled with an Adreno 330 GOU and 2GB of RAM. The Huawei Honor 6 has a octa core HiSilicon Kirin 920 processor consisting of two quad core processors clocked at 1.7Ghz and 1.3Ghz, one being Cortex-A15 and the other being Cortex-A7, which run faster with 3GB of RAM. Both devices have identical internal memories of 16 and 32GB,which can expand up to 128 GB. Both devices came with the Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) and the Galaxy S5 comes with TouchWiz UI, while the Honor 6 has Emotion UI.
For the battery and camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is equipped with a user replaceable 2800mAh battery that las 21 hours of talk time. The Huawei Honor 6 has a non-removable Li-Po 3100 mAh battery which last 2.7 days. Both have an ultra power saving mode which extends the battery life up to 24 hours when it reaches around 10% of remaining juice.
The Samsung handset has a 13MP rear camera bundled with features such as phase detection autofocus, LED flash, 4K video recording at 30fps, 1/2.6” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, HDR etc. The Huawei Honor 6 has 13MP rear camera with LED-flash and which can take a photo in 0.6seconds. The front camera on the Galaxy S5 is 2MP, while a 5MP secondary camera on the Honor 6.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 15GB cost around $512, while the Huawei Honor 6 is at $373.
