DC has confirmed Shazam in the Justice League Universe, sharing the same breathing space as Superman. DC's dilemma is the similarities between the two superheroes, though, which might complicate both their story arcs if producers don't juggle them right.
DC finally eases fan worries and confirms Shazam into the Justice League Universe. After months of sidestepping questions of whether the superhero will move in the same breathing space as the Justice League, DC is adding a touch of optimism to the darker side Metropolis and Gotham.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is confirmed to play the role of Shazam's nemesis, Black Adam; though the titular part is yet to be filled, fans are at least assured a standalone movie is in progress.
DC Comics' blog post on its ten significant moments in 2014 hinted of plans for the DC Universe, which involved the Justice League one way or another.
"For fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they've seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn't seem to be a lot to talk about.
That changed on October 15, 2014, when Warner Bros. revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe." (screenrant.com)
The blog comments that while the ten feature films kick off with Batman and Superman (Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League Part 1, The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Justice League Part 2, Cyborg, and Green Lantern), the rest focus on other superheroes in the DC Universe.
"There's something to interest just about every DC Comics fan, but perhaps what's most interesting is what's largely missing: Batman and Superman.
It all suggests that seven years from now, the DC Comics super heroes you hear children pretending to be in parks and schoolyards may be considerably different than the ones you do today."
Initiating Shazam into the Justice League Universe could jumpstart DC's efforts to compete with the ever-expanding Marvel Studios' movie franchise.
