Which of these smartphone is the best purchase? The iPhone 5S or the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

In terms of design and display, the Phone 5S' back is made of aluminum with two wide bands at the top and at the bottom, while the front panel have thick bazel, a 4 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with a resolution of 640×1136 pixels at 326ppi and a Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. It weighs 112 grams, and measures 123.8×58.6×7.6 mm.

The Galaxy Alpha is much larger and thicker, measuring 132.4×65.5×6.7 mm and weighing 3 grams more. The back cover is made of plastic with a fine dotted texture, but with crowded holes, which are not that deep. The Samsung device's screen is the same size as the new Apple, which is 4.7 inches, but uses Super AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 312ppi and a resolution of 720x1280pixels, and it is protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

For the hardware, the iPhone 5S has a 64bit Apple A7 dual-core 1.3GHz Cyclone processor coupled with a M7 co-processor and PowerVR G6430 graphics, being backed by 1GB of RAM. The cheaper iPhone 5S has a smaller internal memory, which is 16GB, but users can also opt for the 32 or 64GB variant of storage and users can’t add a microSD card for expansion. The Galaxy Alpha features an octa core Exynos 5 Octa 5430 processor, but it will freeze more often than the iPhone 5S. The graphics are Mali-T628 MP6 and they’re good enough to support intensive games and applications. It comes with 2GB of RAM and an unexpandable memory of 32GB.

For the battery and camera specs, the iPhone 5S has a non-removable battery of 1560 mAh with 10 hours of talktime, while the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a 1860 mAh battery that supports 11 hours of talktime.

The iPhone 5S has a rear camera with a lower resolution of 8MP, but it’s more efficient and advanced than other cameras from other flagships. It has the following features such as dual-LED flash, HDR, 1/3” sensor size, 1.5 µm pixel size and it takes great photos regardless of the lighting conditions. The Samsung smartphone features a 12MP back camera with LED flash, dual camera and HDR, and the quality of the images is better, so you’ll have professional photos for your own portfolio or website or social media.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha cost $545 in Amazon.com, while The iPhone 5S 16GB variant is $4 more expensive.
