Which phablet is the ideal purchase for consumers? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Edge and the Meizu MX4 Pro to see which is better.
For the design and display, the Samsung Note Edge has a curved side-panel and a metal frame that had to bend on the right side. Its display is a Super AMOLED measuring 5.6 inches and features a higher resolution of 1600×2560 pixels at 524ppi and is equipped with a S Pen stylus. Its dimensions are 151.3×82.4×8.3 mm and weighs 174 grams.
The Meizu MX4 Pro resembles an iPhone, with a faux aluminum back with rounded edges and features an aluminum frame. The front panel is almost identical to the iPhone, but the home button is oval instead of rounded and inside of it hides the fingerprint sensor. The screen size is at 5.5 inches, being built using IPS LCD technology and it’s capable of supporting a much higher resolution of 1536×2560 pixels at 546ppi. Its dimensions are 150.1x77x9 mm and it’s 16 gram lighter than its opponent.
For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Edge has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset that supports a quad-core 2.7GHz Krait 450 processor with Adreno 420 graphics and 3GB of RAM and the storage options are 32 or 64GB, but it adds up to 128GB if using a microSD card. It runs on the Android v4.4.4 (KitKat) and its features include the IR blaster, heart rate monitor, UV, Oxuygen Saturation sensor, LTE Cat 6 Bands, download booster etc.
The Meizu MX4 Pro has a Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset supporting four cores clocked at 2GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5GHz. The graphics are Mali-T628 and the RAM capacity is the same. The internal memories have capacities of 16/32/64 GB, which don’t support expansion, and runs on the Android v4.4.4 (KitKat).
For the camera and battery specs, the Samsung Galaxy Edge has a 3000mAh battery, while the Meizu MX4 Pro has a 350mAh one. The Samsung phablet has a rear camera of 16MP with optical image stabilization, LED flash, Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording etc., while the front camera is the same as on the Note 4 a 3.7MP. The Meizu phablet has a rear camera of 20.7MP and features including dual-LED flash, 1/2.3” sensor size, HDR, geo-tagging etc., and the front camera is 5MP.
The Samsung Galaxy Edge cost $700 on Amazon.com, while the Meizu MX4 Pro 16GB variant costs $410, the 32GB variant at $440, and the 64GB variant is at $70 more expensive.
