Which smartphone is the better purchase? The Samsung Galaxy Alpha or the HTC Desire 820.
For the design and display, the HTC Desire 820 features a plastic body with dual-tone design, an aluminum body, and a display size of 5.5 inches, which is a LCD supporting a resolution of 720×1280 pixels with 267ppi. The device is tall at 157.7mm, and its thickness is 7.7mm, being way thinner than the HTC One M8. Plus, it’s lighter at 155 grams and feels more comfortable to hold in one hand. In addition, it has a dual stereo front-facing BoomSound speakers which are very loud, and can listen to FM Radio stations.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a metallic frame and a less ugly dotted back, but its display measures 4.7 inches and supports HD resolution (720×1280 pixels at 312 ppi) instead of FHD resolution.
For the hardware and OS, the HTC Desire 820 came with a 64bit octa core processor with four cores clocked at 1.5GHz and with an additional 1GHz, which can compete with sophisticated smartphones that cost a lot of money. The internal memory of the device is 16GB, expandable up to 128GB and it runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with 2GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a 32bit Exynos 5 Octa 5430 processor with four cores clocked at 1.8GHz and four cores clocked at 1.3GHz, which pair with Mali-T628 MP6 graphics and 2GB of RAM, but Samsung removed the microSD card slot and limited the device to an internal memory of 32GB.
For the battery and camera specs, The HTC device has 2600mAh non-removable battery that last 22 hours, talking with friends on 3G, and in stand by mode the phone will last up to 424 hours. The Samsung device's battery has a smaller capacity of 1860mAh which offers only 11 hours of talking time.
The HTC smartphone has a 4MP Ultrapixel camera placed on the back, while the Samsung handset has a rear camera of 12MP, and placed a traditional 2.1MP front camera.
The HTC Desire 820 cost $350, while the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is at $530.
