Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We pit the Sony Xperia Z3 against the Nokia Lumia 830 to see which is better.

In terms of design and display,the Nokia Lumia 830 features a colorful plastic back, but with matte finish instead of a glossy aspect. The squared body is surrounded by a sleek metal frame, and the rear camera has large black lens. The front panel features black glass, the display has large bezels and three capacitive buttons below it. Its dimensions are 139.4×70.7×8.5 mm, and weighs 150 grams. The screen is IPS LCD sized at 5 inches, with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels with 294ppi, and its protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a flat metallic back protected with shatter proof glass, and has metal rim around the sides. Its body is also square, but the smartphone is much thinner, taller and wider. The dimensions are 146x72x7.3 mm and is 2 grams heavier, but it features water and dust protection. The screen is also IPS LCD, but it measures 5.2 inches and supports a higher resolution of 1080×1920 pixels with 424ppi.

For the hardware and OS, the Nokia Lumia 830 runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 as its processor is quad core Cortex A7 clocked at 1.2Ghz, sitting on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset along with Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM and the internal memory comes with a capacity of 16GB, but it may add a microSD card and get 128GB.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a quad core 2.5GHz Krait 400 processor which pairs with an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM, and the chipset is Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801, one of the best. Users can choose one of the two variants of internal memories: 16 or 32GBGB, but it can also increase their capacity up to 128GB.

For the battery and camera specs, the Nokia Lumia 830 has a removable battery of 2200 mAh that lets users talk about 15 hours, with one hour less than on Sony Xperia Z3’s 3100mAh battery.

The Sony handset has a better rear camera of 20.7MP, with double the number of megapixels supported by Nokia handset's back shooter. The features include LED Flash, autofocus, 1/2.3” sensor size, HDR etc. As for the 10MP back camera of the Lumia 830, it features Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, 1/3.4” sensor size and uses PureView technology. The Xperia Z3 has a 2.2MP front camera, which beats the 0.9MP secondary shooter of the Lumia 830.

The Lumia 830 is at $380 on Amazon.com, while the Sony Xperia Z3 16GB variant cost $600.
