Which device is worth the purchase? We pit the Blackberry Passport against the Samsung Galaxy S5 to see which one is better.
In terms of design and display, the Blackberry Passport has a square display sized at 4.5 inches IPS LCD technology, supporting a resolution of 1440x1440pixels at 453 ppi, and being capable to fit 60 characters per line. Its width is at 90.3 mm, a thickness of 9.3 mm, and weighs 196 grams. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a perforated plastic back,and has additional features like a fingerprint sensor and water and dust resistance. Its dimensions are 142×72.5×8.1 mm, weighs 145 grams, and 5.1inches Super AMOLED screen that supports 1080×1920 pixels at 432ppi.
For the hardware and OS, the Blackberry Passport has the same quad core Krait 400 processor as the Galaxy S5, but it has a lower clock speed of 2.26 GHz and uses a previous chipset version: Qualcomm MSM8974AA Snapdragon 801, but it has bigger RAM capacity, 3GB, which helps the CPU deliver a better performance. Users can add a microSD card and get up to 128GB, and it runs on the BlackBerry 10.3 OS.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has its processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, has the same Adreno 330 graphics, but it's partnered by a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset and 2GB of RAM, offering two variants of memories: 16 and 32GB. It runs on the Android version being upgraded to v5.0 (Lollipop).
For the battery and camera specs, the Blackberry Passport has a non-removable 3450 mAh battery which offers up to 23 hours of talk time, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 2800 mAh battery with 21 hours of talktime.
The Samsung device has a better rear camera of 16MP and some of its important features are phase detection autofocus, 1/2.6” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, Dual Shot and 2160p@30fps video capture. The Blackberry has a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, HDR and records at 1080p@60fps. The front cameras on both phones are 2MP.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 costs $518 on Amazon.com, while the Blackberry Passport is $30 more expensive.
