Which smartphone is the ideal choice for consumers? We pit the LG G3 against the HTC Desire 820 to see which is better.
For the design and display, the HTC Desire 820's case is made of plastic, has different color for the frame, the circle surrounding the rear camera lens, and the HTC logo. It is taller than the LG G3, having a height of 157.7 mm and measures 7.7 mm in thickness. It’s heavier at 155 grams, and wider at 78.7 mm. The screen size is the same as its rival at 5.5 inches, but it’s a LCD has a lower resolution of 720×1280 pixels at 267ppi.
The LG G3 case is also plastic, but its painted with brushed faux metal in which users couldn't tell if it’s plastic or metal. It is thicker, at 8.9 mm and has a floating arc design, with smaller bezels and a height of 146.3 mm, and has a 5.5 inches True HD-IPS + LCD display. Its resolution is at 1440×2560 pixels at 534ppi and weighs at 149grams.
In terms of hardware, the HTC Desire 820 comes with 64bit chipset, being powered by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 octa core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 1GHz, which pairs with Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB of RAM. It has a 16GB built in memory card, but users can increase its capacity up to 128 GB. The LG G3 has a chipset of Qualcomm MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801, but the processor is quad core clocked at 2.5GHz. It has Adreno 330 backed by 2GB or 3GB of RAM, which come with 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, that can go up to 128GB if adding a microSD card.
For the camera and battery specs, the HTC Desire 820 has a non-removable battery of 2600mAh which is smaller than the 3000mAh battery from the LG G3, and lasts up to 22 hours and a half when talking on 3G, while its rival has 21 hours of talktime.
Both rear cameras of the handsets are 13MP, but the LG G3 has additional features such as phase detection/laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, optical image stabilization, a 1/3” sensor size, and it’s able to record at 2160p@30fps instead of 1080p@30fps. The LG device also has a 2.1MP front camera, which can’t compete with HTC handset's 8MP camera.
The HTC Desire 820 cost $370 dollars in Amazon.com, while the LG G3 16GB is cost $403 and the 32GB variant costs between $500-$525.
