‘He-Man: Masters Of The Universe’ Movie Script Finished By ‘Kick-Ass 2’ Writer Director; Jeff Wadlow Confirmed To Helm Reboot For Now; Release Date Pending For Revived Hasbro Franchise

News on the "He-Man: Masters of the Universe" movie: the reboot finally gets new push, with a script confirmed finished. It's yet to be seen if the film's development will push through to production, but at least a scriptwriter's name was dropped, with familiar movie credits to boot.

The screenplay draft for the new "He-Man: Masters of the Universe" movie was finished by "Kick-Ass 2" writer and director Jeff Wadlow, pending approval for development. The reboot still has a long way to go before it sees production, but is expected to follow through with the successes of fellow Hasbro franchises Transformers and G.I. Joe.

He-Man and She-Ra were popular 80's characters, both in graphic novels and TV animation. The first movie adaptation starred Dolph Lundgren in the titular role, with Frank Langella as the villain Skeletor. Director John Chu of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was even enlisted to do the live-action reboot.

The project has gone through several scriptwriters after Chu stepped out of the running: Terry Rossio of "Pirates of the Caribbean 1-4," Richard Wenk of "The Equalizer," and writing duo Alex Litvak and Michael Finch of "Predators" were among the shortlist credited for the script drafts.

Screenrant assumes the new "He-Man: Masters of the Universe" movie adaptation will have a serious instead of campy tone, compared to the Dolph Lundgren original.

Wadlow has also completed a script for an "X-Force" movie, which was apparently shelved, with "Deadpool" and "X-Men: Apocalypses confirmed for 2016 release dates instead.

The "He-Man: Masters of the Universe" movie is a long way from an announced release date; Screen Rant reported the studios have the challenge of reviving a dormant franchise.

"1980s-born IP revivals like Masters of the Universe don't exactly have a strong quality record, but it's possible that someone like Wadlow could bring a fresher perspective to the proceedings... or, failing that, at least a competent approach to updating He-Man."
